A new NASCAR season means new diecast cars and Lionel Racing has already announced their next line of collectibles.

Collecting diecast cars is one of the biggest hobbies for NASCAR fans. Maybe you saw your favorite driver pick up a win at your hometown track or maybe they could’ve been racing in a shiny new paint scheme that will only be used a few times. Whatever the circumstances are, NASCAR fans use diecast cars to remember certain races or events and they help to express their favorite moments as a fan.

Lionel Racing, the “Official Diecast” of NASCAR, is one of the biggest names in the collecting community and they make diecast cars in all shapes, sizes and models. Recently, they announced their plans for 2016 and NASCAR.com published an article highlighting their early releases:

"“Target, Walmart and Toys “R” Us carry the NASCAR Authentics line, with Lionel and NASCAR teaming up in a mass retail capacity. That means 1:64-scale die-cast cars and other vehicles, such as haulers, are currently available. More are planned for later in the year.”"

The article went on to say that the cars can also be found at the NASCAR Superstore or Trackside Superstore. A few examples of what you can expect to see in stores are raced wins, like Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s confetti-covered ride from Talladega in 2015, or memorable rides like Jeff Gordon’s rainbow scheme for Bristol or his final silver scheme for Homestead, both 2015 cars.

It’s obvious that the diecast cars available in stores are going to be a little more special than last season’s lineup of NASCAR Authentics cars, which were made by Spin Master. The 2016 cars will feature more unique paint schemes and will also be packaged with special hood pieces, that commemorate the paint on the car for the race it appeared in. The hood also features a signature with the driver’s number.

As for cars that were raced in wins, a card is packaged in place of the hood with a picture of the driver and details of the race, like the date and where it took place at.

The main changes made to this years diecast cars in stores have made the cars a lot more appealing than they have been in past years and they are sure to be a big hit with the buyers.

Some collectors look for everything they can find while some only look for cars of their favorite driver. However, there is another tier of collectors that wants the valuable items and the ones that will be coveted even after years and years have passed.

Though there is no way of knowing what those cars could be right now, you could guess that a few of the Jeff Gordon diecast cars, especially his Homestead ride from November, are bound to be favorites from fans. Also, I imagine a few Tony Stewart products will be popular since he is approaching the start of his final season in February.
