Jimmie Johnson is a legend of our sport. His unprecedented championship run of five consecutive titles may never be repeated. Despite this domination of the Chase, his championship hopes have been stymied since the introduction of the 2014 Chase.

A lot of debate has been sparked in recent memory as to the possibility that Jimmie Johnson could break the record for number of championships, overtaking NASCAR legends Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty. Jimmie Johnson
became one of the most polarizing figures in NASCAR when he went on one of the most dominating run in sports history by winning 5 consecutive Sprint Cup championships from 2006 to 2010. He added a sixth championship in 2013, when his nickname “Six-time”was coined. His fan base is loyal but many fans of the sport scorn at the mention of Jimmie Johnson because of how he has dominated the sport.

The dominance of old for Johnson has fallen off slightly over the past few seasons. The No. 48 team has continued to rack up numerous victories, but the team’s dominance of the Chase has slipped in recent years. After the stretch of five titles in a row, Johnson has only won once in the previous five seasons. Now the obvious reason I could have provided would be that Jimmie must win a seventh one first, I chose to go with a more analytical path of reasoning. While Johnson and the No. 48 team have a good chance at getting that seventh Sprint Cup Series title and more, I have created a list of five reasons why Jimmie will not win that elusive eighth title.
