Number 3: Daytona – July 1, 2000 – Pepsi 400

Significance: First Daytona/plate win, 500th Cup series win for Ford, Last Cup race on CBS

Commentary: Burton took the green flag on a late-race restart with four laps to go and held off chargers Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin and Ricky Rudd. This was Burton’s first Daytona win, the 500th Cup series win for Ford and the last Cup race televised by CBS. Sadly, this would also be Kenny Irwin’s last race, as he suffered fatal injuries in a practice crash at Loudon the following weekend.
