Vickers has proven that he can sustain solid finishes over the course of a season.

Though Brian Vickers only has three wins in his career, he has raced fairly well. In nine of his 13 seasons he has had an average start in the top-20 and in six of this 13 seasons, he has had an average finish in the top-20. Though those aren’t flashy stats, they are good enough to gain some recognition and earn a job for a driver like Tony Stewart.

Just two years ago in 2014, Vickers posted three top-5’s, one at Texas, Talladega and Daytona. Just the fact that he did that at two of NASCAR’s hardest tracks and both restrictor plate tracks was impressive in itself.

According to usatoday.com, Vickers will only be replacing Stewart for the 500. With that in mind, it’s important to keep his career at Daytona in perspective. He has finished in the top-15 on eight separate occasions there, meaning that he is more than capable of getting the No. 14 off to a good start.

"“Vickers is only expected to run at Daytona, which opens Friday ahead of the Feb. 21 season-opening Daytona 500. SHR is still looking at all of its options for beyond Daytona.”"

Vickers certainly is not the most popular driver that SHR could’ve picked for the job, but he is definitely qualified to fill in on Feb. 21 and he has a decent history at Daytona, which could pay off in the end.
