Joseph Shelton, BTF Staff Writer – Pace Car Catches Fire, 2014 Sprint Unlimited

I honestly feel bad saying this because I have other favorite moments from the event as well. Ken Schrader winning the Busch Clash, Jeff Gordon winning his first Busch Clash, or even Dale Earnhard Jr. winning his first Budweiser Shootout in 2003. But this has to be the most memorable for all the wrong, humorous reason.

Nobody ever expects the pace car to have any trouble, so when the broadcast returned with Clint Bowyer exclaiming, “There’s a caution for the caution car!” it was definitely a shock to see Brett Bodine pulling that blue 2014 Chevy off the track with flames shooting out of the back. It’s great that nobody was harmed, by all means, and in the end it was pretty funny to see. Definitely one for the unexpected.
