Stewart Causes The Big One At Talladega

Forget having the moves like Jagger, Tony Stewart had moves like Dale Earnhardt during the fall 2012 race at Talladega Super Speedway. It all started with two laps to go as Stewart made a quick decision to move up a lane to avoid Kevin Harvick. He then got a great push from Sam Hornish Jr. to blast past Matt Kenseth for the race lead.

Stewart couldn’t take all the credit for his quick run through the field however, as an incident between Matt Kenseth and Clint Bowyer gave Stewart the hole he needed to shoot through the pack and eventually take the lead. Unfortunately for Stewart, the moves weren’t enough to get him the win and his car ended up flipping on its side after coming down to block Michael Waltrip on the bottom lane.

Not only did the accident leave several drivers with battered race cars, it also left Dale Earnhardt Jr. with a significant head injury that put him out of racing action for two weeks. As for Stewart, he was able to get his battered race car to run under its own power, but had to be feeling a little dizzy after how fast he went from leading the race to sitting feet away from the finish line with a destroyed race car.
