NASCAR: Winners And Losers At Daytona
By Cole Mentzel
Winner: Kevin Harvick
Kevin Harvick entered the Daytona 500 after a failed attempt at winning back-to-back championships.
Going into the race on Sunday, Harvick was one of the favorites to win. After joining Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014, he’s elevated his racing to an elite level in the sport and was looking for his second win in The Great American Race.
Early on, Harvick made a race-saving move to ensure a continued day on the track. Coming out of Turn 4, a spot where many wrecks occurred throughout the day, Harvick got loose and went for a ride out on the pavement left of the fast-moving lines. He was able to wiggle himself back into position and take a spot near the back of the field.
By doing that, Harvick potentially saved his car and helped himself stay in the race to secure a 4th-place finish. His incredible car control made the difference in his day.
