Top 15 Greatest Finishes In NASCAR History
7. 2012 Fontana Raceway: Denny Hamlin versus Joey Logano
Rivalries have been known to create some pretty amazing finishes in the past and this battle between Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin was no exception. Not only did the two former teammates not pull any punches during the two-lap battle for the win at Auto Club Speedway, but they also traded the lead several times during their battle as well.
The battle came to a violent conclusion on the final turn of the race, when Denny Hamlin tapped Logano and caused him to crash into the outside wall. Although Hamlin had successfully fended off his rival in the final turn of the race, the contact with Logano got him loose and sent him hurtling towards the inside wall of the track. With both Hamlin and Logano’s car limping to the line, this left the door open for third place driver, Kyle Busch, to get past both drivers and get the surprise victory.
Unfortunately, the exciting finish wasn’t without its casualties, as Denny Hamlin suffered a severe back injury after his head on collision with the inside wall. Hamlin was able to get out of the car following the incident, but ultimately fell to the ground in the infield grass and had to be removed on a stretcher. He was later taken to a hospital and was out of action for a majority of the season.
