5. 2012 Watkins Glen Race: Slippery when wet

Brad Keselowski versus Marcos Ambrose.  Ever wonder what a NASCAR race would look like on ice? Well, NASCAR fans got treated to a view of that when massive pools of oil littered the track during a 2012 race at Watkins Glen Motor Speedway and ultimately helped decide the outcome of the afternoon’s race.

It all started with one lap to go, when Kyle Busch seemed to be having a tire going down and overshot the first turn of the track. Busch then tried to get back on the track, but was tapped by a hard charging Brad Keselowski and spun into the guardrail. Although it originally looked like this would hand the win over to Keselowski, the contact between the two drivers gave Brad Keselowski an unfortunate tire rub.

This of course opened the door for Marcos Ambrose, who quickly began to catch up to Keselowski and start to challenge him for the lead and the win. The two cars put on a hell of a battle from there, sliding through the grass, bumping each other in every other turn and getting each other sideways a few times, but it was ultimately Ambrose who was able to get a good run in the final turn of the race and take the checkered flag.

While Road courses are usually known for strung out racing,  single car accidents and run away victories, the 2012 race at Watkins Glen showed fans just how excited the racing action could be at these types of tracks.
