13. 2016 Daytona 500: Denny Hamlin versus Martin Truex Jr.
We might not realize it now, but the 2016 Daytona 500 is probably a finish we will talk about and remember for quite some time. Not only did the 58th running of the great American race have suspense from beginning to end, but it also featured one of the closest races in the sport’s entire history. Not to mention, it was the first ever Dayton 500 win for Toyota.
The action started with one lap to go, as Denny Hamlin made a risky move on the on the outside to try to take the lead away from Matt Kenseth The move proved successful for Hamlin, who had led for most of the afternoon, but it also caused Kenseth to get shuffled to the back of the back. With Kenseth now out of the way, Hamlin and Truex Jr started to frantically race to the line, bouncing off of each other in the process.
In the end, it was Hamlin who took home The Daytona 500 victory that day, and it was the fans that got treated to one of the best finishes in NASCAR history. It was also a great way to start the 2016 season.
