12. Coca-Cola 600: Jimmie Johnson wins three straight after edging out Bobby Labonte

Like many other entries on this list, the excitement comes from the implications of what each driver winning would mean for the future of the sport. For Jimmie Johnson, it was a chance at a third straight win in The Coca-Cola 600, which would make him the only driver in history to accomplish that feat. For Bobby Labonte, it was a chance to prove that he could still compete in a sport that was slowly starting to pass him by.

Johnson was desperately trying to pass Labonte with three laps to go in 2005 Coca Cola 600, but the veteran was always able to throw a timely block whenever Johnson got close enough to make the pass. Finally, with half a lap to go, Johnson elected to try the outside groove of the race track and edged Labonte to the line in one of the closest finishes in NASCAR history.
