In one week, the Verizon IndyCar Series heads to Florida to kick off the 2016 season with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.  2015 Indianapolis 500 champion Juan Pablo Montoya is the defending champion of the season opener, but there are plenty of big moments in the history of the grand prix.

St. Petersburg has been a history-making location for the Verizon IndyCar Series. It’s the site of many firsts and many exciting battles. Wins have been spread between powerhouse teams including Penske, Andretti, Ganassi, and Newman-Haas. Both Honda and Chevrolet have earned wins on the streets of St. Petersburg, but there is more in the season-opener than passes and wins. The Florida city has more than proved its worth as the kick-off to the IndyCar Series season each and every year.
