No. 4 – Carl Edwards Brings Out The Red Flag

Qualifying is never the time for your car to have trouble because the end result is usually never a good thing. On Friday in Atlanta, Carl Edwards and the No. 19 had issues during qualifying when they had a tire go down and got into the outside wall.

The issue took place during the second round of qualifying and the damage resulted in Edwards being forced to a backup car for the Kobalt 400. The tough weekend for Edwards and company did not end in qualifying though. During the Kobalt 400 on Sunday Edwards was never really a factor in the race on his way to finishing in 18th.

The incident in qualifying also had an impact on the No. 14 team of Brian Vickers. Vickers was in the middle of a run when the red flag came out and NASCAR disallowed his lap time because he did not complete it before the red flag. As a result he had to run another lap in the second round and ended up qualifying 19th. Had Edwards not had an issue and Vickers’ lap been allowed, Vickers would have been fast enough to get into the top-12.
