NASCAR: Five Drivers Most Likely To Win At Phoenix
By Cole Mentzel
This weekend, NASCAR will be visiting the first short track of the season and that opens up chances for a few drivers.
After racing at a 2.5-mile speedway and two 1.5-mile speedways, the Sprint Cup Series will head to the first 1-mile track of the season as Phoenix International Raceway will host the fourth race this year. The race will be the second of three for NASCAR’s road trip to the west.
Phoenix is one of NASCAR’s most unique tracks because of the dogleg that stems from Turn 2. Whether the driver chooses to cut across it or stay on the main lines on the track, the dogleg always plays a big part in all of the action at the track.
There aren’t too many venues as scenic as PIR. The track, surrounded by mountains and cacti provides the perfect atmosphere of desert racing, paired with the hot temperatures that are usually seen any time cars hit the track.
Short track racing provides many different drivers with chances to win as some are better on short courses than others. With three different winners so far this season (Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski), the bracket for the 2016 Chase for the Cup is already starting to fill up. Any win from a new driver is going to be huge, in terms of securing a Chase berth.
Check out five drivers with great chances at a win this weekend.
