Contender No. 2: Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Stats at Phoenix:

  • Wins: 3
  • Top-5’s: 8
  • Top-10’s: 13
  • Laps Led: 535

Dale Earnhardt Jr. hasn’t always raced well at Phoenix but he is still one of the most successful drivers at the track.

He won two races back-to-back in 2003 and 2004 while in the midst of a nice stretch at the track. Then, from 2009-2012, he had a rough time finding success, finishing in the top-10 just one time. Once he got past that, he strung together more quality races before winning in the fall of 2015 due to a rain-shortened race.

This weekend at Phoenix, Earnhardt Jr. is going to have a lot going for him. Since a rough start to the season, he has followed up with two top-10 finishes and he will be rocking a fresh new Axalta paint scheme.

Earnhardt Jr. is going to running near the top with his teammate Jimmie Johnson again at Phoenix this weekend and if he gets some of the luck he had there just a few months back, he will have a shot to win his fourth race at the track.
