2011 Auto Club 400

This race can certainly validate Kevin Harvick’s nickname as “The Closer.” Kevin Harvick started this race in the 24th position and was nearly no ones pick to win that day in California. As Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson battled in the closing laps, Kevin Harvick began to close in from third position.

As they raced under the white flag, Johnson, Harvick, and Busch were 1-2-3 and bumper to bumper. Harvick bump-drafted Johnson into turn 3, and as they came off of turn 4, Harvick cleared Jimmie Johnson and held him off at the checkers by just over a car-length.

Harvick led just one single lap in the Auto Club 400, and even on that final lap he led just a couple hundred yards coming to the checkered-flag. This was the sole race “The Closer” has ever won by just leading one single lap.
