2010 Aaron’s 499

Kevin Harvick was the man to beat at the restrictor-plate tracks in 2010, winning three times (Bud Shootout included) and finishing second in another. This race was run during the short-lived era of “tandem-racing.”

This was also the first race to feature three attempts at a green-white-checker finish. The third attempt was a success. That year’s Daytona 500 Champion Jamie McMurray and Kevin Harvick (also a 500 winner-stay tuned) stayed connected on the final restart and pulled away from the field coming to the white flag.

McMurray led the field off of turn 4, as Harvick appeared to be sizing up the No. 1 Chevrolet as the raced through the tri-oval. As the top-two were just a couple hundred feet from the finish-line, Harvick got McMurray loose and edged him at the line in one of the closest finished of all time, by a mere 0.011 seconds. He led just two laps in this event.
