Winner: Dominance In The Desert

Kevin Harvick proved yet again why Phoenix is his favorite track to race at and why he is the best driver to ever compete there.

After sweeping the track in 2006, Harvick has gone on to win six out of the last eight races at PIR, including four in a row at one point. In the only two races he didn’t win, he finished 2nd and 13th. During the stretch, Harvick has led a total of 1,079 laps and at least 100 in the last five races.

Today, Harvick had to work a little harder for his victory, as he held around early but never could get to the lead. Eventually, he got to the front about halfway through the race and never let up, growing dominant leads over the pack. That wasn’t the end though. As he made the last turn of the race, he managed to hold of Carl Edwards, who initiated contact multiple times, for the closest finish in PIR history.

If there was ever any doubt before today (which there wasn’t) that Kevin Harvick couldn’t do it again in the desert, it was totally erased. He will look to secure his 9th win at the track during the Chase in November.
