Winner: Overtime

As much as I hate using the word “overtime” for a NASCAR race, there’s no denying the fact that it provided fans at the track and around the nation with a thrilling finish Sunday afternoon.

Kevin Harvick had a commanding lead over Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the rest of the field when Kasey Kahne brought out a late caution, calling for overtime. Concerns began to arise as to if the ending was going to turn into another disaster, but this time around the results were pretty awesome.

Electing to stay out, Earnhardt Jr. fell back on the re-start, opening up a chance for Carl Edwards who rode Harvick’s bumper until making his move on the final turn of the race. The two made contact twice, leading to a .010 photo finish, the closest ever at Phoenix.

Though other issues are sure to arise at some point this season with the new “overtime” rules, they certainly gave us an exciting race on Sunday and provided one more close finish to add to the NASCAR history books.
