NASCAR: Winners And Losers From Auto Club
By Cole Mentzel
Loser: Austin Dillon
Throughout the first four weeks of the 2016 season, Austin Dillon had completed four top-11 finishes. He had plenty to look forward to at Fontana after a great start to the weekend.
On Friday, Dillon set records in qualifying before earning the pole for the Auto Club 400. On Saturday, he passed Kyle Busch on the last lap to secure a victory at the track in the Xfinity Series.
Sunday’s race delivered a different result. Dillon was able to hang around in the top-10 for a little while but eventually ended up in 24th, his worst finish of the year in terms of Cup Racing. With his great start to the season, Dillon is still in 10th-place in the Chase standings.
It certainly looks like Dillon could be up to something this season as he has started to race like a real threat each and every week. If he continues to do so, it would not be shocking to see him win and earn a spot into the 2016 Chase for the Cup.
