Winner: Lead Changes

The low downforce package nailed it again this weekend at Fontana. The racing was much, much better than in previous years with no lead safe at any point throughout the race.

After everything was said and done and Jimmie Johnson used a late pass to win, four-time champion Jeff Gordon stated that there had been 26 lead changes during the course of the race.

Even though Kevin Harvick led 142 laps, more than any other driver, seven others were able to seize the lead at one point or another, including Martin Truex Jr., Carl Edwards, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott.

Again, it just seemed as if passing was so much easier at the track. Drivers like Dale Earnhardt Jr., who struggled the majority of the day, were able to gain critical positions in overtime. Also, whenever a new leader took over, others would sometimes fly into the picture, creating even more lead changes, hence the 26 total.
