NASCAR: Winners And Losers From Auto Club
By Cole Mentzel
Winner: Making History
Jimmie Johnson drove into Auto Club tied with Dale Earnhardt on the wins list. His 76 victories was good enough to tie him for 6th all-time.
Johnson was competitive at Auto Club all day long, driving his Superman-themed car around the wide turns in Fontana. He went on to lead 25 laps, which was the second most among all drivers.
Late in the race, he fell back just a little bit and sat in 7th when the final caution came out. However, a great pit stop got him set up for a critical restart and just like in Atlanta, Johnson owned overtime.
As the cars entered Turn 3 on the first lap, Johnson took the lead and never looked back, giving him his 77th win of all-time and moving him just six wins away from Cale Yarborough.
