NASCAR: David Pearson’s Five Most Significant Wins
By Mike Hutton
Number 4: 1980 CRC Chemical Rebel 500 From Darlington
Significance: Last Cup win
Commentary: It would seem fitting that Pearson’s 105th, and final Cup win would come at a track which he so loved and dominated throughout his career, as well as in his home state of South Carolina. The race was interrupted by both rain and hail, and is to date the shortest (by percentage) race in Cup series history, with just 51.5% of the 367 laps being completed. The race was officially ended due to darkness, as Darlington Raceway would not add lights to the facility for another 24 years.
