NASCAR: David Pearson’s Five Most Significant Wins
By Mike Hutton
Number 2: 1961 World 600 From Charlotte
Significance: First Cup win, Tim Flock’s last race
Commentary: It is ironic that Pearson’s first Cup win came in the same race that saw another NASCAR legend (Tim Flock) compete in his final event. Pearson led 225 of 400 laps to win the race, beating legacy competitors such as Fireball Roberts, Rex White, Ned Jarrett and Jim Paschal to the finish line. It is noteworthy that Pearson also ran the final three laps on a flat tire, something which current drivers (i.e. Kyle Busch) are still trying to do successfully today.
