2008 NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Montreal

Oh Canada! Arguably some of the greatest road course racing in NASCAR’s number two division, and quite possibly in NASCAR overall, was seen in Montreal at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The race ran from five years, from 2007 to 2012, and while unfortunately plagued by bad weather (with rain in multiple races), it proved wildly popular among fans.

After a crazy finish to the inaugural race, the 2008 edition of the NAPA Auto Parts 200 saw the first rain race for the series in Canada, and the first running on rain tires since a practice session back at Watkins Glen in the 1990s. And while that may seem like the recent past, few drivers in the field that day had any race experience in such conditions.

Understandably, the drivers with more experience excelled early at Montreal. Veteran road course racers like Ron Fellows and Max Papis would take advantage of the rest of the field, though everyone moved at much slower speeds. As the rain intensified, however, the race got stranger and wackier, with some unforgettable moments for future stars of the Sprint Cup circuit, including a cameo appearance by what could be called a Swiffer (though it pales in comparison to Danica Patrick vs. a shoe).

How would these drivers used to racing in dry conditions adapt to the wet? See for yourself.
