NASCAR: Dale Jarrett’s Five Most Significant Wins
By Mike Hutton
Number 4: 2005 UAW Ford 500 From Talladega
Significance: Last Cup Win
Commentary: In what would ultimately be his final Cup win, Dale broke a 2 1/2 year drought by winning the fall Talladega race in 2005. The race was marred by several “big one” crashes which were attributed to the track, the restrictor plates, the bump drafting, the drivers’ talent — you name it, and it was the culprit. Not unlike many plate races, many opinions followed the race on what was “wrong” with the rules, but no practical ideas on how to make the racing more competitive were given. Plate racing to this day remains unpredictable at best, although current rules packages have minimized risk as much as possible.
