It seems like a week never goes by where we aren’t talking about how Jimmie Johnson has been incredible at a selected track. That’s the case for him again at Martinsville.

As one of the best to ever race at the paperclip, Johnson has just one win less than his former teammate, Jeff Gordon. The two competed with each other a lot back in the 2000’s, which happened to be the time period where Johnson won most of his races at the track.

He earned his first win there in 2004. Then, from 2006-2009, Johnson won five out of six races at Martinsville to go along with 1,021 laps led. Later on, he won back-to-back races stretching from 2012-2013. He’s finished outside of the top-12 just three different times and has earned an average finish of 7.5 at a track where wrecks can be unpredictable and unavoidable.

Though his last three races have not gone too well, Johnson will head into Sunday as the hottest driver in the field. With more wins than anyone else this season (2) and the top spot in the Chase standings, he will definitely be in the running for another win.
