Loser: Trevor Bayne’s Late Strategy

There was roughly 70 laps to go in the race when Trevor Bayne and the No. 6 team went with an interesting strategy.

Bayne stayed on the track through green flag pit stops in an attempt to catch a caution and remain on a different strategy for the remainder of the race. The reason for this stemmed from the fact that the car had been running in the top-15 for most of the evening.

Bayne rode through the storm as he continued to get passed by lapped cars, and stayed out for a little longer after Martin Truex Jr. finally caught up to him. Eventually he made his way to the pits and a caution for debris came out shortly after, proving that just one more lap could’ve made the strategy work.

Even though he suffered that setback, Bayne still managed to finish in 15th place, giving him his best finish of the season so far. His teammates, Greg Biffle and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., both finished below him as they were involved in wrecks.
