Contender No. 1: Joey Logano

Stats at Bristol:

  • Wins: 2
  • Top-5’s: 3
  • Top-10’s: 4
  • Laps Led: 408

Joey Logano has not had success at Bristol until just recently. He captured his first win at the track during the summer of 2014 and did the same thing last summer, after leading 176 laps.

Logano’s history at Bristol does not exactly make him a contender for Sunday’s race, but it’s his history at short tracks that gives him an edge. Since 2014, Logano has an average finish of 9.9 at short tracks, finishing outside of the top-8 just six times out of 26 total races. Four out of his last eleven wins have come at tracks like Richmond, Loudon and Bristol.

Logano will head into this race without a win but with plenty of quality finishes this year and he feels confident about his chances at Bristol (via sportingnews.com):

"“I think we have a good idea, probably there more than any race track we go to on what we need to do to race well, and what we need at the end of the race to race well. So I think we’ve learned that and done a really good job at taking our notes and understanding what those items are and making sure we have them in our race car.”"

It’s only a matter of time before Logano earns his first win of the season and punches his ticket to the Chase. It could come on Sunday, when he races at a track where he’s won the last two out of three races.
