NASCAR: Winners And Losers From Bristol
By Cole Mentzel
Winner: Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Late-Race Move
The day did not start off well for Dale Earnhardt Jr. He immediately went down two laps as he had to come down pit road and cycle the ECU.
That sparked a long grind that continued for the rest of the day until Earnhardt Jr. was finally able to get back on the lead lap and into the top-10.
After the last restart of the race, he had to go to battle with Kurt Busch to secure his second-place position and it took a pretty risky move to get the job done. As the two cars wheeled through Turn 1, with Chase Elliott looking on, Kurt Busch made the pass before Earnhardt Jr. quickly slid between Busch and Elliott in Turn 2 in order to get back into the runner-up position.
He would go on to get pressured by Busch a couple of more times before the end of the race, but was able to hold on and finish second again after the same finish at Texas last weekend.
After the race, Greg Ives, the crew chief for the No. 88 car, took to Twitter and explained how he wasn’t even sure the car was top-10 worthy, but said that the team “never quit” which led to their great finish.
