The Underdog: Clint Bowyer

Stats at Talladega:

  • Wins: 2
  • Top-5’s: 6
  • Top-10’s: 11
  • Laps Led: 100

Clint Bowyer has not won a race since 2012. It’s been tough for him in his last few seasons with Michael Waltrip Racing, which ended full-time competition after 2015, however, he’s currently with HScott Motorsports as he awaits Tony Stewart’s ride in 2017.

Another rough start to the season has been the case for Bowyer as he has finished outside of 18th place in every race except for Bristol, where he earned a eighth-place finish.

Despite that, he will have a shot at Talladega this weekend. With two wins there (2010 and 2011), Bowyer has managed to log an average finish of 14.9 at the track. He’s been excellent there since 2014 with two third-place finishes and an eighth-place finish. It’s been the same story at Daytona with three top-10’s in his last four races. The bottom line is that Bowyer loves restrictor plate racing, even if he’s struggling everywhere else.
