The Birth of a Star

Over the years, many racing fans have seen drivers they once saw racing on local short tracks rise up through the ranks and become stars in motorsports. Kyle Busch is just one of those success stories, but may have become one of the most successful, with a combined 150 plus victories in all three of NASCAR’s nationally touring series. But of course, he started out as a young kid too, just trying to get his feet wet.

The 2003 Food World 300 at Talladega for the ARCA Racing Series was the first superspeedway start for Kyle Busch. The series that races on everything from dirt tracks to road courses to superspeedways, has a long history of developing future Sprint Cup stars, like Chris Buescher, Joey Logano, and Ty Dillon. Many of them would get their first big track experience in the series, along with others transitioning from other racing disciplines, like Scott Speed and Dario Franchitti.

The full race from back in 2003 is available on YouTube, as seen on Speed TV. Joining Kyle Busch in the field would be other big names including Paul Menard, Boris Said, and David Stremme. Rick Benjamin, Bill Venturini, and Ken Schrader will guide you through the race.
