Loser: Causes For Cautions

We all know Sunday’s race at Talladega was defined by the amount of wrecks that occurred, but this time around, it seemed like the wrecks included a more dangerous twist the farther we got into the race.

Early on, we saw Chris Buescher perform multiple flips in his No. 34 car. Later on, we saw Matt Kenseth nearly fly through the infield wall as he lifted off the ground.

Danica Patrick, involved in the same wreck, flew into the wall and gave some frightening details about her health after the accident (via usatoday.com):

"“That was the worst one (wreck) so far. I have decent bruises on my arm and foot. I hit a wall at 200. And my chest hurts when I breathe.”"

We saw various other wrecks throughout the day, like Michael Annett’s slam into a SAFER barrier as well as Kevin Harvick’s ride into the wall on the final lap of the race.

Though no one was seriously injured in any of the incidents that occurred, the question has to be raised: Has Talladega become too dangerous? It would be foolish to consider taking it out of the circuit altogether, but should NASCAR intervene in an attempt to create a less hostile environment where there isn’t multiple scary moments in the same race?

That remains to be seen as Sunday brought more situations that could’ve gone very wrong.
