Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

Let’s start with a track that has not seen IndyCar action ever. Yes that is correct, only the CART Series visited Laguna Seca and that was all the way back in 2004.

So why does this make sense? The Indy Lights are racing at Laguna Seca the following weekend in September, which means, IndyCar could move their race from Labor Day back a week. This would provide IndyCar with a solid 10-14 days in the California market as they crown their 2016 champion at Sonoma a week later.

The track will already be prepared for open-wheel racing so running the race on Labor Day weekend might also be an option. Getting these cars back on the Laguna Seca circuit would be worth it, considering twenty years later and this move is still being talked about.
