Loser: Tony Stewart’s Track Bar

In order to make the Chase, Tony Stewart must get to at least the top-30 in the driver standings, plus get a win.

If anything, Stewart had some optimism heading into the day. His last win (2013) came at Dover. His career had seen him score three victories at the track and lead over 1000 laps, feats only Jimmie Johnson has been able to accomplish over the years.

Smoke started the day off strong, as he was wheeling his No. 14 car around the track with consistency, getting all the way up into the top-15, however, things got bad fast.

With 58 laps to go, Stewart’s track bar broke, releasing oil onto the track and ultimately leading to a pit road visit and a 34th-place finish. He talked about the incident later on in the afternoon (via stewarthaasracing.com)

"“We had been fighting – the car was acting weird for the last 80 to 100 laps. I’m sure it was already starting to break, and it finally just broke the rest of the way.”"

Stewart sits in 37th-place in the driver standings and still needs a victory this season.
