Winner: Miles The Monster

In one of the biggest wrecks we’ve ever seen at Dover, 18 cars suffered damage.

It all started with about 46 laps to go. Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth led the field to the line as they have opted to go with just two tires rather than four. On the re-start, Kenseth zoomed out front, while Johnson surprisingly didn’t. His car would not accelerate, causing a massive pileup that  was nearly unavoidable for most of the cars on the lead lap.

Johnson took to Twitter after the race to say that his “shifter locked up on [his] shift from 2nd to 3rd.”

It was one of the rare occurrences of “The Big One” at a short track but it did open the door for drivers like Chase Elliott, who narrowly avoided contact and gained a few positions.

Shortly after that wreck, Miles obtained Carl Edwards’ No. 19 car after a hard slam into the wall right in front of Kyle Larson.

All of the wrecks today certainly altered the race, as notable drivers like Johnson, Edwards, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch all finished in 25th or worse.
