Loser: Martin Truex Jr.’s Chances At A Win (Again)

The No. 78 team just can’t catch a break this season. On Sunday, they were caught up in another unfortunate situation.

Martin Truex Jr. worked his way to the front of the pack about halfway through the race and battled with Kyle Larson before eventually taking the lead. He went on to lead a total of 47 laps and looked great at the track where he scored his first Cup Series win in 2007.

After pit stops and a few re-starts, Truex had lost his leading position but still sat in fourth place, directly behind Jimmie Johnson. The only problem with that came in the form of Johnson’s shifter, which quit working and, in turn, led to Truex flying into Johnson’s rear.

Truex got back out onto the track and made something out of the race, putting together a solid 9th-place finish, but he would’ve definitely been in contention for a win had he not suffered from more bad luck.
