Marco vs. Hornish

Arguably one of the most exciting and memorable finishes in recent memory was that from the 2006 Indianapolis 500. It would surprise many to know that the finish was the first time in race history where a pass for the win was made on the final lap. And the pass came in the final 500 feet of track.

With ten laps to go in the race, Marco Andretti was making his final pit stop. Meanwhile, on track, Felipe Giaffone crashed in turn two, bringing out a caution. Andretti would slip past the pace car and stay on the lead lap, and line up second on the restart behind his father Michael. After the restart, the Andrettis would have to battle a hard charging Sam Hornish Jr. for Team Penske, and the result was a fantastic finish.

Watch and listen as Marty Reid, Scott Goodyear, and Rusty Wallace called the finish to the race for ABC. It was the first 500 in the booth for Reid and Wallace, and it would be one they could never forget.
