NASCAR: Winners And Losers From Sonoma
By Cole Mentzel
It was an emotional day at Sonoma. Recap one of NASCAR’s best weekends and take a look at a few winners and losers from the Toyota Save Mart 350.
NASCAR’s had a lot of big weekends in 2016 so far. We’ve already seen dramatic endings at Daytona, Phoenix and Richmond and we’ve seen victories that mean just a little bit more, like Martin Truex Jr.’s dominant win at Charlotte.
However, this weekend, we saw more than we expected to see, and Sonoma could be considered the best race weekend so far.
It was the typical road race early on. With plenty of bumping and pit strategies, A.J. Allmendinger and Carl Edwards established themselves early.
As time moved on and cautions changed the running order, we saw Tony Stewart, who had stayed in contention the entire day, work his way to the front of the pack, where he engaged in a tense duel with Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin, before snapping an 84-race win drought in a thrilling victory.
Stewart’s win brought him within nine points of being in the Chase as he became the 11th different driver to win a race this season.
Let’s dive in and take a look at a few winners and losers from Sunday’s race.
