No.5 Matt Kenseth holds off a hard-charging Kyle Larson (Dover).
The Dover International Speedway is usually Jimmie Johnson’s house, a track where the Californian driver has won ten times in his career. This year it was not the case though, with Johnson ending his chances in a multi-car crash in the final quarter of the race. The fight for the win took place between Matt Kenseth and Kyle Larson instead. With five laps to go Larson closed the gap between him and the Joe Gibbs Racing driver and the two started battling. Kenseth always took the preferred line and forced Larson to push the limit in order to pass him. You could see that red car get sideways and scratch the wall more than once in the effort he was making to take the lead but Kenseth never lost his calm. Larson could get alongside the leader a few times but could never get clear and this cost him the win because Kenseth always had enough momentum to return in front. When the checkered flag waved it was the first (and so far the only one) win of the season for the 2003 Winston Cup champion.
