Winner: Drivers On The Bubble
With only seven races left until the Chase begins, each week has become key to securing a Chase berth for drivers who don’t have a win. This weekend, a few Chase hopefuls came up big.
Greg Biffle, who sits 66 points behind the line, is on a roll right now. With three-straight top-10 finishes and his first top-5 of the season at New Hampshire (5th), he is making a steady gain in the standings each weekend.
Jamie McMurray is in the 15th position right now, in terms of the Chase grid. He finished 6th at Loudon, ensuring a slight points increase over 16th-place Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Ryan Newman finished 7th and now has the second-most points among drivers without a win on the season as he continues to complete solid races and keep himself safely above the line.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. earned a 10th-place finish and moved up to 20th in the standings as he has a top-10 and a top-5 in the last three weeks.
Ryan Blaney overcame a a speeding penalty on pit road to earn an 11th-place finish, which has him just 16 points away from 16th-place.
The race to make the Chase will continue to be tight as the regular season rapidly approaches a close. The drivers mentioned above, as well as others like Trevor Bayne, Kasey Kahne and Kyle Larson, will all need consistent solid runs in order to make the Chase on points alone.
