While NASCAR on NBC has made a multitude of improvements after its return to the sport just last year, mainly not cutting to commercial every five minutes during green flag conditions, it still has a long way to go if it wants to start bringing fans back. Not only does NASCAR on NBC suffer from a lackluster announce team, they also hold many of their races on a channel that a lot of race fans don’t have.

Sure, there is the NBC Go app and the NASCAR’s weekly replay on YouTube, but that essentially puts a lot of fans out of the loop and makes them the last people to get the information from the race. It also suffers from serious lag problems on occasion (the app), which can make a race very frustrating to watch and has also been known to make some fans quit NASCAR completely.

With that being said, what seems to hurt the most about all this is how NASCAR promised it would help propel the sport into the next age. Yes, NASCAR did make a lot of money from their deal with NBC and NBCSN, 50% more than the 2.7 million combined offered by ESPN and Turner Sports in their previous deal, but is the money really worth alienating fans that make the sport what it is?
