Winner: Kyle Larson

It’s been an up-and-down season for Chip Ganassi Racing, but one CGR driver left Indy feeling pretty good: Kyle Larson.

Coming into the weekend, he was in the middle of the race to get above the Chase cut line. After winning at Eldora earlier in the week and finishing fourth in the Lilly Diabetes 250 on Saturday, he had the momentum he needed to complete a solid week.

Larson had a great day, as he ran in the top-10 for a while, and he ended up coming away with a fifth-place finish, earning just his fourth top-5 of the season. But a few other drivers like his teammate, Jamie McMurray, Greg Biffle, Ryan Newman, Trevor Bayne, Ryan Blaney and A.J. Allmendinger were all involved in accidents.

With the combination of Larson’s great finish and the wrecks that took place, he was able to move up four spot in the driver standings, meaning he’s now in the 16th and final spot on the Chase grid.

There’s still six races left until the Chase begins, but Larson certainly has himself in a good spot heading to Pocono.
