Winner: Gaining Experience

One of the popular themes this season has been the rise of so many young drivers. Whether we’ve seen good runs from Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney or other drivers like Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon looking for their first wins, NASCAR’s future has definitely been on display.

On Monday, we saw more of the same. Around the halfway point in the race, it began to mist and many thought rain was closing in, which would’ve likely meant the end of the race.

At the time, Larson and Dillon were engaged in a heated battle. With Larson leading, the two drivers were desperately trying to get out front and stay out front, as racing conditions had become poor.

As Dillon got to Larson’s bumper coming out of Turn 3, the two made contact, which allowed Joey Logano to slide into the lead.

Later on in the race, the two went at it again, with Dillon still looking like the faster car but never being able to get past Larson. Eventually, cautions and stops played into the situation and the two were separated as the race ended, but it was great to finally see two future stars racing for the lead.

At one point in the race, it looked like one was going to win and pull off the upset, but even though things fell through, the two drivers gained some valuable experience on racing against the clock–something they’ll have to use in the future as they chase wins in the Cup Series.
