Loser: Seatbelts
Jeff Gordon filled in for Dale Earnhardt Jr. again this weekend as the full-time driver of the No. 88 car continues to recover from concussion-like symptoms.
Last weekend, Gordon had to deal with extreme heat and high temperatures at Indianapolis, but this weekend he faced a situation that was a little more intense.
During a late restart, Gordon had worked his way up to seventh place, as he looked like he was on his way to securing a top-10 finish for the No. 88 team. However, once things got going he fell all the way back to 27th place, as it looked like his car had an issue.
But it didn’t have anything to do with the performance of the car, it had to do with the fact that Gordon’s right-side seatbelt had come undone. The incident resulted in a 27th-place finish for Gordon on a day that had looked promising for the four-time Champion.
Gordon expressed his disappointment with what happened (via foxsports.com):
"“I knew I couldn’t go down into Turn 1 on these crazy restarts without a right-side seat belt,” said Gordon. “So, I came in under that stop. We worked on it and now it’s good. I have no clue. It’s unfortunate. The No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet is pretty good. … I hate that that happened.”"
Overall, Gordon certainly had a decent car, but one small issue ended up costing him a solid finish.
