Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was labeled as one of the future stars of NASCAR. He was already set to take over Matt Kenseth’s ride when he left for JGR in 2012 and had a lot of experience in the lower tier series behind him to prove he deserved a shot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. While no one was really surprised when he went winless in his first season with RFR, the fact that he still hasn’t won years later is a cause for concern.

What went wrong though?

Maybe it was due to the decline of Roush Fenway Racing and their inability to keep up with the Hendrick and Joe Gibbs Racing’s of the sport. The blame could also lie with Stenhouse Jr. himself, who may have jumped ship to the Cup Series too soon and should have spent some more time in NASCAR’s developmental series.

Either way, the man who had won two straight Xfinity Series titles and was once named one of the rising stars of NASCAR, now finds himself winless since his debut, with no Chase appearances to his name and not much progress being made either. In all honesty, Stenhouse was the victim of hype and a sport that was eager to establish a new star. Unfortunately, becoming the new face of RFR did not pan out as some might have imagined.
