Danica Patrick

You can’t talk about overrated without mentioning the up and down career of Danica Patrick. While she did begin her Sprint Cup career with a pole in The Great American race and a 9th place finish in her first Daytona 500, her career since then has been a mixture of lackluster finishes in the back of the pack. Add in some embarrassing incidents on the track and that leaves many to wonder why she was brought to NASCAR in the first place.

With that being said, Danica Patrick is still an amazing role model for young woman everywhere and a testament to where hard work and determination can get you. In the end though, it’s all overshadowed by her lack of results behind the wheel. Not only has Patrick failed to finish in the top-ten the so far in 2016, she also only has two top-15 finishes.

Looking further into Patrick’s career, fans will notice that she only holds six top-ten’s in five seasons. She also has a career best points ranking of 24th and hasn’t had a top-10 finish since last year’s spring race at Bristol Motor Speedway. If this and the fact that she is in pretty good equipment with SHR doesn’t wake fans up to the fact that NASCAR’s queen is overrated, then they really must be blind.

Is she good for the sport? Yes! Is she a marketing machine? Most definitely, but when it comes to actually putting her money where her mouth is and going out to compete with the boys, her performance is sub-par at best. That’s not to say she doesn’t have a great career ahead of her in some other form of the sport, but the hype wasn’t worth the payout in NASCAR when it came to Patrick.
