Carl Edwards

Believe or not, Carl Edwards has never lived up to the hype that his career has been given over the years. Throughout his career fans at home and in the stands were constantly reminded of him passing out business cards in order to get someone to notice him and give him a chance to compete at NASCAR’s top level of competition.

While Edwards did eventually get the attention of Jack Roush after an 8th place finish at Kansas Motor speedway and went on to compete full-time in the Sprint Cup Series year’s later, its been an up and down ride for the guy that people said could go down as a series great. Keep in mind that this has nothing to do with his marketability and his respect for the sport, but everything to do with his performance

Sure, Edwards went toe-to-toe with Stewart for the 2011 Sprint Cup Championship, but Edwards hasn’t been able to recapture that momentum in the following years. While Edwards has made the Chase several time since his tie-breaker loss to Tony Stewart in 2011, he has never made the final-four under the new Chase format and hasn’t been as competitive as his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates.

With that being said, Edwards deserves a great deal of respect for his multiple accomplishments in the sport of NASCAR, but the fact that he hasn’t captured a championship or even a Daytona 500 does take away from those who call him one of the greatest drivers in the sport right now. Edwards is good but he isn’t as great as some make him out to be.
