NASCAR Checkered Countdown: Top-Five Watkins Glen Finishes
No. 4 Road-course masters AJ Allmendinger and Marcos Ambrose battle it out (2014).
AJ Allmendinger and Marcos Ambrose always shined when it came to road-course racing. The more experience they had in turning the steering wheel both left and right definitely helped them when it came to these particular races. In 2014 they were starting on the front row during the final restart at Watkins Glen.
Allmendinger immediately got the lead but Ambrose was not going to give up. He started making aggressive moves and the two cars made contact multiple times. After pushing the leader wide in turn five the Aussie got the lead but Allmendinger came back on the outside to take first position again in the following left-hand corner. Ambrose tried to resist on the outside but went wide allowing the driver of the #47 car to stretch out and win comfortably. It was the first win for Allmendinger, earned after a ferocious fight with a lot of beating and banging involved.
