NASCAR Checkered Countdown: Top-Five Watkins Glen Finishes
No. 2 Kevin Harvick runs out of fuel in the final corner of the final lap, Joey Logano wins (2015).
In 2015 after four consecutive runner-up finishes at Watkins Glen team Penske finally won one, thanks to Joey Logano. In the closing laps Kevin Harvick was leading with a nice margin but needed to save fuel to win the race. He had to slow down and this helped the driver of the #22 Ford Fusion get closer and start applying some pressure on him. It all came down to the final lap: Logano made a mistake in turn one allowing Harvick to build a big gap, but the Stewart-Haas racing driver soon lost all his advantage to save fuel. All that conserving was not sufficient because he ran out of gas in the final corners after almost 30 laps in the lead. Logano made the pass on the slowing car of Harvick in the entry of the final corner stealing an incredible win and ending the streak of second-place finishes for Roger Penske. Harvick finished third after also Kyle Busch passed him.
